The group started operations in 1967 with the management of two coastal cement vessels and has been in the cement shipping business ever since. As a group the company expanded into other areas of shipping.

In the late 70s we were responsible for the complete logistics into Saudi Arabia for Saudi charterer, including 9 terminal vessels with bagging capabilities and shipped a total of 50 million tons from various countries.

The company expanded its fleet through acquisition of 16 vessels in 2004 and 14 vessels in 2006. Subsequently the cement shipping activities were reorganized into one business  - KGJ Cement.

Another milestone was when the company designed and developed a new cement handling system, installed for the first time on “Cyprus Cement” in 2006. The system has later been patented and has been used on several of the newbuildings and conversions in the company.

In 2014 we entered into a J/V with Erik Thun AB (Sweden) for cement vessels smaller than 6.000dwt. The J/V company, JT Cement AS (Norway), has in addition to the initial fleet of 6 vessels converted two bulkers to cement/bulk combination carriers and has ordered 2 x 7.300dwt LNG/MGO dual fuel cement carriers – the first ones in the world!

Today, KGJ Cement is a shipping and logistics provider for the global cement and powder industries. At the beginning of September 2015 we operated 21 specialized cement carriers of various sizes making us the largest independent operator in the world.

With a highly competent organization ashore and onboard our vessels, we will continue to provide best possible solutions for our valuable customers.
